Victoria Johnston

Through travelling in English speaking countries, I discovered my love of the English language, culture and lifestyle from an early age. When we opened The English Room a lifetime dream of mine came true. With its combination of language, elegant style and cultural events – what’s not to like? I love exchanging views and ideas with our customers and colleagues and getting new inspiration for my daily work. At The English Room I teach some classes but mainly do administrative work like bookkeeping, organisation of events and everyday scheduling. Any wishes, problems or questions I’m the person to speak to. If I’m not at The English Room you can find me doing outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing or travelling.

Ian Johnston

Back in 2002, when I started my career in English teaching, I would never have imagined where this business would take me. The years of experience have taught me to stay flexible and adapt my teaching style to the individual needs of the clients. This is one of the main aspects in the strategy of The English Room. We opened the school in 2010 with just a handful of clients and have enjoyed sustainable growth ever since. I have met many inspirational people from all corners of the business and industry worlds and that inspiration has also supported the development of The English Room. I’m responsible for representing The English Room, for teaching, predominantly in companies, and for transferring The English Room principles to staff and clients. My main objectives are to provide the best possible service to all our clients, to develop a strong team and to establish long term partnerships to encourage mutual success.

Christina Nielsen-Marsh

Although originally from Wales, my family has been based in Germany since 1973.  For many years I was a molecular palaeontologist before my career brought me to Leipzig in 2004. In 2007, I left research to focus on my career in art and have exhibited my work in the UK, Sweden and Germany. I joined The English Room in 2010 and since 2012 I have been responsible for the day-to-day operational running of the school, including organising courses and coordinating our team of wonderful trainers.  With a background in scientific, multidisciplinary research and academic-based teaching, I’m also in charge of providing specialised language services for our academic and research-based clients.

Course Structure

Our English courses are designed according to the latest didactics and are based on our many years of experience. A balanced mix of fun and learning is at the forefront of our concept. The use of up-to-date teaching methods and the integration of new media into our courses are also top priorities.

All our group courses are conducted with a maximum of six people and are organised so that they build on each other to provide a seamless learning experience. A small group size allows our trainers to react perfectly and be attendant to each individual’s needs while enhancing language skills. In such an intimate atmosphere you will quickly notice how easy it becomes for you to start using a foreign language effectively.

Trainers

Our trainers are all native speakers and hold a CELTA/TESOL qualification. We aim to select not just qualified individuals, but also those who fit well within our friendly and close-knit team. To provide our clients with the best learning experience, we need to ensure that we have a happy, supportive and well-functioning professional development environment.
