About us

Ian Johnston

Ian JohnstonBack in 2002, when I started my career in English teaching, I would never have imagined where this business would take me. The years of experience have taught me to stay flexible and adapt my teaching style to the individual needs of the clients.
This is one of the main aspects in the strategy of The English Room. We opened the school in 2010 with just a handful of clients and have enjoyed sustainable growth ever since. I have met many inspirational people from all corners of the business and industry worlds and that inspiration has also supported the development of The English Room.
I’m responsible for representing The English Room, for teaching, predominantly in companies, and for transferring The English Room principles to staff and clients.
My main objectives are to provide the best possible service to all our clients, to develop a strong team and to establish long term partnerships to encourage mutual success.

Victoria Johnston

Victoria JohnstonThrough travelling in English speaking countries, I discovered my love of the English language, culture and lifestyle from an early age. When we opened The English Room a lifetime dream of mine came true. With its combination of language, elegant style and cultural events – what’s not to like? I love exchanging views and ideas with our customers and colleagues and getting new inspiration for my daily work.
At The English Room I teach some classes but mainly do administrative work like bookkeeping, organisation of events and everyday scheduling. Any wishes, problems or questions I’m the person to speak to.
If I’m not at The English Room you can find me doing outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing or travelling.

Dr. Christina Nielsen-Marsh

Dr. Christina Nielsen-MarshAlthough Welsh by birth, Germany has been my home since 1973.  For 13 years I was a molecular palaeontologist, hunting for biomolecules in extinct creatures across the world, before my career brought me to Leipzig in 2004.  In 2007, I left research to focus on my new career in art and since then have exhibited my work in the UK, Sweden and Germany, including Leipzig’s famous Spinnerei.  With a such a multi-faceted background, The English Room is a perfect fit for my various skills. Alongside my day-to-day responsibilities in the office, I use the creative side of my brain to keep our social media sites entertaining and informative, and the logical side of my brain for planning courses and teaching our research-based clients.

Anna Ward

Anna WardI’ve always imagined myself living in Germany. After completing my BA in German and Slavonic Studies I decided to make the dream a reality and moved to Leipzig in 2011. I’ve worked in a variety of teaching environments, but have since found my home at the English Room. We take the professional development of our teachers seriously and if I’m not in the classroom then you’ll find me reading up on the latest teaching ideas, creating workshops for our teachers, and mentoring our newly qualified teachers. In my free time I enjoy keeping up my Russian and regularly take lessons. Actually, one of the best ways to develop as a teacher is to put your feet in your learners’ shoes and learn a language!

Trainer

Our trainers are all native speakers and hold a CELTA/TESOL qualification.  We aim to select not just qualified individuals, but also those who fit well within our friendly and close-knit team.  We believe that in order to provide our clients with the best learning experience, we need to ensure that we have a happy, supportive and well-functioning teaching environment.
